Chiyo-Jo's Haiku

Newyear Spring Summer Autumn Winter

buds on the grass light up--fire-flies!

Gama grass grows around the pond. After drying the long leaves they can be woven into straw mats. When summer comes the grass sprouts tassels, from the long stems. They look like twenty centimeter-long brown candles. This haiku depicts the scene of a fire-fly sitting on the tip of the tassel by saying, “the gama grass candles are lit-up.”
